After a record performance during the first six months of 2016, the second half of the year has not disappointed in the new van market.
Official figures from the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders), show new light commercial vehicle sales in November totalling 29,784 units, the highest number on record.
With a year to date figure of 348,448 units registered overall, 2016 is up 2.1% on the same 11 month period in 2015.
Demand for heavier vehicles (2.5-3.5T) continues to stay strong, accounting for more than 60% of the LCV market, however lighter vans (2.0-2.5T) are experiencing an upturn with demand rising 43.1% last month.
Pick-ups also continue to do well with registrations in November up by 36.7%
Mike Hawes, Chief Executive, SMMT: “The new van market’s growth in November is welcome news and an encouraging sign of ongoing business confidence. With almost 350,000 light commercials registered so far this year, the sector remains on track to beat 2015’s record-breaking performance. For this success to continue in 2017 and beyond, however, it is essential that the economic conditions that have kept this sector so buoyant in recent years are maintained.”
Simon Joyce, MD, Anchor Vans: “An increase in new vehicle models and a consistent growth in vehicle registrations means that we will see this filter through to the used van market, providing wider choice and lower prices for buyers.”
